| Chemical formula: | Na2S2O4 |
| Application: | as a strong reducing agent it is used in dyeing, for obtaining soluble leuco compounds during cloth dyeing with insoluble colours (so called vat dyes); alkaline solutions of sodium hyposulfite are used for the oxygen absorption in gas analysis; it is also used for obtaining rongalit (acting with formic acid) which is also used in dyeing, especially for cloth printing; it has many other applications such as bleaching agent (spinning materials bleaching, defective dyeing removing, old material discolouring, raw chemical paper - pulp bleaching, bleaching of molasses, soap, glue, vegetable oils and clays), ore flotation or purification of sewage and exhaust gases; lately it has found an usage in pharmaceutical industry to produce some medicaments |
